I have naturally brown hair so one day i decided to dye it lighter, It turned out completely orange! I died it a dark brown and it was okay fora couple of weeks with a little bit of brassiness[ i chose a ash brown, cool tone] but now its summer and the chlorine from swimming is making my hair more brassy like it was before, ans my roots are showing about half an inch!
i dont know what to do, I thought by dying it brown my roots would just grow in but it didnt work!
I cant just keep dying it dark brown forever .

well if you have natural brassiness then you have to keep using ash tones because they will help reduce the appearence of the red

To get the dye out you can just wash your hair with dishwashing liquid. My friend had the same problem and thats what we did and it worked

you need to use a color that is really dark brown - like almost black by clairol. don't use colors with ASH in them - I'm surprised you hair hasn't turned green with the combo of the ash and the chlorine! if you get it dark enough, it will kind of fade into the right brown. or - my best advice - See a Hairdresser! I know it's expensive, but in the end - it's usually worth it! Good Luck!

Buy a chunking highlight cap at Sally Beauty Supply. Pull your hair through and color the hair a shade darker than your natural haircolor. When it fades some, it will look more like your natural haircolor with some highlights.

Who is dying your hair? Are you doing it on your own or professionally? I would suggest that you seek out a colorist and get professional advice. You may want to get some toner done to take away the brassiness. It helps to pull your natural color with the dye. #1 advice- seek professional help! You do not want to damage your hair.

once you've dyed your hair light and then dye it darker,it will keep fading and you will have to keep dying it until it grows out and the dyed part is cut off.Permanent hair color damages the hair more then semi or demi permanent hair color. Here is my suggestion. Go to a beauty supply and get some demi permanent hair color,Redken is a good brand. The demi color just deposits color on your hair. Permanent hair color lightens the hair and deposits color at the same time, even if you are using a dark color, that's how it works and you don't need that. If your hair is naturally dark brown try a brown that is kind of dark. Once you find the color that you really like, you should stalk up on it and keep getting yout hair trimmed to get rid of the dyed hair. By the way,the demi permanent color isn't permanent. Good luck
