Dyed hair dark brown, it turned out BLACK!!!?

I just dyed my hair for the very first time (I'm 26). I've always had very dark brown hair, but now as I've gotten older its been getting lighter to the point of light ash brown. I decided to try to darken it again. We bought some Wella Demi-Permanent dye. Unfortunately it turned out pretty much black. I'm very fair with light eyes, so I don't think it works with my skin tone. I've washed my hair about 4 times since Saturday and its still black! Last night I used some Palmolive dish soap and it seemed to remove some dye, but I was wondering if anyone has any more suggestions on how to lessen the "black" color? I've heard of lemon juice, head %26amp; shoulders....I just want to get to a dark chestnut brown. Thanks!

This was recommended to me by a hairdresser once. Shampoo your hair with Vosene - using a large quantity of shampoo and not much water - massage it in to your hair for a few minutes before rinsing. Do this a few times and it will lessen the colour. Don't forget to follow it with a deep conditioning treatment so you don't wreck your hair.

I did the same once - I looked like a witch! It soon lessens though. You should go see a hairdresser to get the colour you want in future.

Good luck! :O)

Don't freak out about it. mine did the same thing once and it always fades, just give it like a week and a half.

try sitting in the sun for a little bit and see if that lightens it at all.

Did you look on the side of the box where it shows several hair colors and what it will look like after? I did my hair cinnaberry once and it turned maroon. That's when Someone told me this same thing. Different hair types also make a big difference. My hair soaks up water like a sponge and there for it did the same with the dye. Always do a test spot also on the underneath hair so if it is not right you haven't gotten yourself into the position your in. But all else said. It will have to fade in it's own time.

It will fade! It's only semi-permanent! It will be lighter in about a week or so. Try using a clarifying shampoo, like Pantene Pro-V Clarifying. Whatever you do, dont put lemon juice on your hair, because the second you get into the sun, it will start to lighten your hair, but it will give you leopard spots!!!

Try mixing some baking soda with your dishsoap, make it onto a thick paste. Try washing it with that.

If that doesnt help, call a professional.

I have always been to chicken to color my own hair. The pro jobs are worth every penny!

go get a few soft highlights around your face and the top of your crown.. It will provide a good contrast and add some dimension.

I've had this happen to me more than once... Things i've done to help the fading process. Is laundry soap/dish soap... Also I went %26amp; mixed bleach w activator (very little bit)... Mixed it with a ton of water %26amp; shampoo... Stuck it on there for a couple mins and washed... Just be careful not to overly lighten with this one - seriously only a couple mins.. .Can do it again, can't put the color back kind of mentality...

Also - lemon juice, sun in, those types of products work but not as fast as the dish soap or the bleach mixture...
