darker hair needs to go a couple of shades lighter to actually show up so if you want it a little lighter use a light brown.good luck, hope this helps

You wont see much difference. Anything from medium brown to black will not get lighter at all. The only colours that will work are reds and darker colours. If you want it lighter you need to get it bleached.
