Is it possible to dye dark brown hair blonde without going ginger?

i have dark brown hair and want to go blonde- no peroxide blonde but a mid blonde, is it possible without going ginger? and will i wreck my hair? my hair is a bit on the thin side anyways. And also how often would i have to dye it if i did go blonde and how would i get the roots the same colour as the rest of the hair-wow lots of questions there, but thankyou if you have any idea x

Yeah, I went to my hairstylist with black hair, 4 hours later I was blond, but I hated it and dyed it back within the next week or so. I don't recommend it though, it kills your hair and the bleaching makes your head reallyyyyyyy itchy. Just make sure you don't wash it out too soon, or you'll have orange hair.

Here's what mine did:

You have to bleach it which i don't recommend, because you will fry your head off... and you'd have to re-dye it often not to get roots and look like a skunk.

To dye dark hair it has to first be bleached, because it will not take the blonde well without it. That is what is called a Double-Process.

progress to get it.

do light brown

then dark blonde

then go to blonde

it is really hard to do it right away.

Bleach it first....make it so...WHITE..then it will be whatever color you choose in the dye you pick...

everyone want's to be a blonde, sorry if it is not natural you will have 2 use peroxide.

You will first have to use bleach and they usually sell those in packets that you have to mix with peroxide , you need to redo it till you get the desired hue.

Then chose the color of blond that you would like and color your hair that color , it will be hell for your hair but if you want to be blond you need to do that.

I died my hair blonde a few months ago, you'l probably have to use 2 dyes. The first time I dyed mine it went a deep ginger so I waited a couple of hours and died it again, and voila it went blonde! It wasn't all that much of a peroxide blonde either. I doubt it'l wreck your hair, it certainly won't be all that good for it but shouldn't damage it that much at all. To get the roots the same colour just make sure you put the dye right down to your roots, that's the best thing you can do. You'l probably have to dye it again about a few weeks later, not too sure though. I hope this helps you a bit! =]

if i were you i would let a professional do it, it has to go through stages and only a pro knows what stage to stop at....i am speaking from experience, i screwed up my hair and it broke off i had to get it cut....be careful!

DO NOT BLEACH as your hair is thin it will break it and it will become short you can go blonde but dont atemp to do it ur self seek the advice and help of a professional hairdresser

Whenever you dye your hair just so you know it gets it brittle and really messes it up. It is worse than a lot of heat on your hair. I wouldn't do it.

Yes, it is possible. You should go to a good hair salon and have it done by a professional. Your hair will not be damaged if they know what they are doing. You will need a retouch every 8 to 10 weeks. FYI - do not use peroxide!! Unless you want orange hair

I don't know much about dyeing hair, but from what I understand its best if you do it in stages, so you can get better results and lighter roots.

I don't agree with hair dying because it burns your hair and sometimes damages it -- make sure your going to a good hair saloon. -- And if this is your first time dying your hair, its best if you do not do it yourself.

You can't "dye" a dark hair color to make it a lighter color. You can only bleach it to lighten it, and generally you will have to bleach out the dark color and then add a toner to create the new, lighter color. This is a two-step process and not something you should take on yourself, as it's very easy to go way wrong and destroy your hair--much more complicated than using dye.

As far as dark hair turning ginger if lightened, it's very likely, if your hair has any "red" highlights to it. You may not necessarily know that is the case until you try to bleach it, which is why you need to have a professional colorist do this for you. Otherwise, you will end up looking like an orangutan and then having your hair break off.

They can do it at a salon but you could also do it yourself for less than 30 dollars. here's how:

pre-lighten hair with "clairol born blonde maxi" (from cvs or wallgreens)

hair goes through 5 stages when lightening (it will happen at a hairdressers too, so you can't avoid it) brown to red to orange/ginger to yellow to pale yellow (the color of the inside of a banana peel).

you stop the pre-lightening process at the pale yellow stage (when i pre-lighten, i leave it on about 2 hours which is longer than it says in the instructions, but that's what it takes for my hair).

after this, your hair will have brassy tones in it, giving it sort of an orange or yellow look. (very NOT natural) to fix this you must go through one more step:

go to sally's beauty supply and buy wella 'white lady' toner. it is violet based (which is better than ash based which is blue, but they also have blue based toners there if you really want to use that instead). and you mix it with a 10 volume developer and apply to your hair for 30 minutes.

you will come out with a gorgeous ash/beige blonde which is the most natural looking blonde, as long as your don't freak out during the pre-lightening process and rinse it out too early.

after you use the toner, you should purchase a violet shampoo, like rusk's 'bright shampoo'. it has chamomile and lavendar color to keep the toner from fading and keep your hair from getting dull. the best conditioner to use for processed hair is pureology's 'hydrate' (in the purple bottle). once you put it on your hair will just turn to silk immediately. i can't explain the sensation but your hair will have never felt better. plus it's all organic. then make sure to only shampoo every other day, and use as little heat as possible on your hair. air drying is best instead of using a blow dryer, and if you must use a flat iron to straighten, always use a protective creme to keep the hair from drying out too much.

p.s. hairdressers will always tell you to go to a salon and have it done professionaly and that is always the best option when you have the money. but all i'm trying to say is that it is not impossible to do it yourself. i have been doing it for years and when i go to high end salons to have my hair trimmed every month they can hardly believe that i color my own hair with OTC products, and that i haven't had the color professionally applied.
