naturally i have super dark brown hair, i recently dyed it (the box said it was meant for darker hair and it was supposed to add warmth to my hair color and pretty much lighten it up a little bit), anyways the box turned my hair pretty much almost black and i hate it! so i scheduled an appointment to dye my hair a warm chocolate brown w/natural highlights, are they gonna have to bleach it? or what will they have to do?
Naturally DARK brown hair, dyed it almost black and want it chocolate brown... will they have to bleach it?
either that or use a color remover. I would suggest giving your hair a break for a couple weeks and do a lot of deep conditioning treatments because color removal is harsh on your hair. why not give it a while to fade. usually coloring hair darker doesn't hold for very long. in about 2 weeks, with regular shampooing, your hair will be a half of a shade lighter. maybe you just need to get used to it.

i would foil the highlights in then go back with a color bottle with your color of choice and use 30 vol. peroxide,..if nnot 40 vol. depending on how dark the hair is. i would put tca drops in the color to make it process faster. when the highlights are done, i would go back in with a toner and tone your hightlights to the desired color. it shouldn't take you too long. maybe an hour and a half total time there, and i would only lift your highlights to an orange before toning. the orange will keep it looking natural and not to light, when you put the toner ontop of your orange hair, you will have natural brown highlights with warmth. if you lift it up too light, like to a yellow or lighter, it will take the warmth out of your hair and won't look so natural.hope this helps
