Lightening brown hair w/out bleach?

I have medium brown hair. I'd lke to achieve a light brown, and eliminate some red tones. I 'd like to avoid going to a salon and having it bleached. That and, the last time i was in a salon i asked them to do this, and they used an ash blonde to slightly lighten my hair, but it's still got some red tones and it's not light enough.

Can i just go to Sally's and mix a light ash blonde with a 30 or 40 developer to lighten it? My hair is in pretty good condition, i take good care of it, so i'm not worried too much about damage. No "just go to a salon" answers, either you know if this will work, or know what will, please.

Also, i don't want to "naturally lighten " these methods will turn my hair orange.THANKS

nope that won't work either, but good thing you go to sally beauty. there's this stuff there called hicolor from l'oreal professional, it lifts dyed hair without bleach, and deposits. remember that roots develop faster than the rest of the hair does, so get a lower developer to apply about on the root, go about an inch or so. then the rest will be with a higher developer. hicolor is only sold in sally beauty.

edit: omg! don't use peroxide, with this stuff, you don't even need bleach.

LOL! That most likely will work! Usually, the color does fade, and sometimes into a color that you may not like. For example, I got really light highlights into my medium brown hair; and also got the redness into it. The more that you dye it and color it, the more pernament damage you could do to you're hair. If you use that; it is ok........ but....... when it wares out ( or however you spell it) you will continuously get that redness, or a pukish brown into your hair. I would recommend simply blonde extensions put into the upper sides of you're head to make it seem lighter.

HOPE THIS HELPS!

If you have permanant color already, hair color is not going to work...The only way your going to achieve this and do it right is to have someone foil the hair with bleach, then use a toner afterwards...You say light brown, which is only one level up from med brown...You see hair color wont lift color...You have to use bleach to lift the previous color up, then tone..with a color that you want...
