A few months ago I dye my hair a dark brown (it's naturally dirty blond). I'm sick of it now and I want to go back to a blond shade, but my mom's friend who's a hairdresser said it will fry my hair to strip it and redye it. Are there any products or procedures that will damage my hair less?

Tell your mom's friend that she's wrong. You can strip the color out and your hair will still be healthy as long as the stylist does it right. If your mom's friend won't do it, just go to a different salon. Your hair won't be fried since you're not going too blonde.

Everyone on here that said It wont damage your hair to strip it and redye is full of crap. My mother has been a cosmotologist for over 25 years and I have seen enough botched jobs to know trouble when I see it comming. Your best bet is to slowly lighten your hair. Pick a shade a couple of shades lighter than the color is now and then repeat that every couple of weeks untill you are at your desired shade. If you try to bleach out your hair its gonna turn orange or yellow or green depending on the base color of the developer you used before. You hair will also become brittle and dry so much so that even the best conditioning treatment wont be able to save it. Conditioners do NOT replace your hairs natural moisture they simply "close" the folicles on your hair to make it smooth. It will not make is stronger or less prone to breakage as many claim. Your best bet is to seak professional help and Im not talking about the fresh out of school girl at Super Cuts. Find a stylist that has a background in chemistry. They completely understand how the chemicals effect your hair and how to correct color. Best of luck and here's hoping you dont end up bald.
