How can i stop brown hair dye going black?

I want to clour my hair brown, but everytime i have done it it turns black, (this even happened a few times at a salon) its using a light brown colour.

Is there a way to get it to turn less dark on the tips? i focus on the root to start as colour takes longer to work on that part.

Should i use a little leave in conditioner on the tips as i colour? will this help?

I'd go for a dark blonde dye. This happens to me every time, it always ends up much darker than it's supposed to be so just bear that in mind when you pick the colour.

Have you tried leaving it on for half of the time? Also a trim before you dye may help.

Maybe you should leave the dye on your hair not as long as the recommended.

Firstly stop putting hair dye.rather u put mehendi powder per month if u want your hair to look brown as it is natural and on chemical and also it does not damages hair.

Put mehendi at night (10:00 p.m.) and wash in the morning with shampoo.

after spending the last 15 years using all different home hair dyes and having good as well as disastrous results id reccomend you start of leaving it on for only 5 minutes and see how that goes and then 10minutes if it not stromg enough and longer if thats not enough etc etc. have you done a strand test when you doing it. this is the best way to get an accurate time for the shade youre looking for. If youresaying that its happened at the salon as well it may be youre hairs just not suitable for permanent dyes and you should maybe just try wash in wash out ones, sounds like your hair might take better to them and theyll probably last longer to wash out then what it says on the box. I once left a auburn dye on to long cause i got engrossed in eastenders and it ended up bright red because of the henna stuff in it soknow how annoying it is when it goes wrong. hope you find something that works. good luck

Your hair is extremely dry possibly from being over processed if you regularly dye your hair. When the hair shaft is dry, it is porous and sucks up too much colour therefore making it darker. I'm surprised the person you dealt with at your salon did not tell you this... or warn you that it would possibly happen. They should be able to determine the condition of your hair before they even begin to put dyes on it... The way to avoid this from happening is to give your hair a break and not colour it for awhile. Grow it out a bit and then trim off all of the damaged areas. Make sure you eat healthily and drink plenty of water. Dry hair that hasn't been over processed is down to diet most of the time.
