How to dye brown hair green for one night?

The style I'm going for is my hair up in a pony tail with two small strands hanging down framing my face. These two strands would be dyed green (preferably a neon green). I only want it in my hair for 1 night (though i could handle, at most 3). Because I have brown/reddish hair, they say I have to lighten my hair to strip it of its brown. But since I only want those two small strands dyed, and for so short of a time, I don't want those two strands to be a lighter shade than the rest of my hair when it finally comes out. Suggestions?

haha, I ran into this problem so many times. The thing is, they're right, you're going to have to lighten your hair in order to get the shade of green you're looking for. You could always go to claire's or any beauty supply place and get little green extensions and wear them for the night. That would easily solve the problem of you not wanting to lighten your hair!

You can get non toxic hair spray in a can, just like spray paint for hair. It is available at all big retailers and mega marts and hair salon suppliers. The stuff we got was less than $10.

It washes out relatively easily but does have some interaction with existing artificial color. They recommend testing first. I have never done that. It always washed out in a day or two.

Well since both of your parents have hazel eyes, there was about a 25% chance that you would have blue. That's very approximate since more than one gene affects eye color, but basically both of your parents had to have the blue gene and the brown/hazel.

My dad also has blue eyes, pale skin, and dark brown hair, and he's half English/half Scottish. And my grandma on the other side had the same but with green eyes, and she was German and Irish... so I'm guessing you're pretty normal.

well about a month ago my hair was medium brown with lighter streaks and i wanted to dye it all dark brown

so i get and 'at home kit' of the color i want ...and it comes out JET BLACK

i franticly jump in the shower and try to rinse out as much of the color as i can but it didnt get any out...except for the back where there are patched of light brown which are clearly visible

i went to the hair salon and they said if i try to dye it back any time soon it could turn a greenish color and it would take about 6 hours

dye it over again.mine was light blond and black and i went right back to all black .i was worried about the greenish but it was ok .you might want to check after washing your hair a couple times and dye it over again. you should be good after that

I have dark brown hair with some grey. I have red and ash lowlights which have grown out half way.

I don't have a problem with experimenting but right now I have a few weddings to attend :) so don't want to go for a color which won't go with my clothes or will limit the make up colors I can use.

Will I have this problem with either Burgundy Brown or Dark Red Brown? I want to be able to use pink lipsticks for one and shades of purple, etc. From the pictures at the site ( I haven't yet seen the box), the burgundy looks more brown brown while the Dark Red brown seems to have this lovely red sheen to it.

I once used a Red color of Feria and it went an icky orange on my hair so I really don't want to risk something like that. Even getting my hair dyed professionally only got rid of the orange color for 2 weeks and then it was back. Well Feria is a strong color for sure. I guess I picked the wrong color then ... it was too carroty for me :)

Since your hair is dark brown I would suggest you get two colours added to your hair. These would be a 2 shades of blonde and a auburn that you have your stylist put through out the hair.

I have natural dark brown hair as well. I usually do red, blond and light brown highlights through out all of my hair, not just on the top. Most brunettes have natural red highlights anyway if they stay out in the sun enough for the highlights to show up.

Just tell your stylist the color(s) you are thinking of for highlights, whether you want them on top or layered through your hair and then ask what their opinion is. Oh and make sure you ask how much its going to be. Layered cost more than on top because it takes longer usually.

I do my own at home over a period of two days with my highlighting materials and some foil. Thats always an option as well.

Are you going to get your hair done professionally or are you going to do it yourself??

If you are going to a professional, find a picture of something that you would like and you should be good to go! They are a professional and should be able to use colors that work for your hair and skin tone. They will be able to foil your hair which will give you very subtle/natural looking and gorgeous highlights.

Subtle highlights really add demension to the haircolor. Lighter hair, especially around your face is extremely flattering. So I would definitely suggest getting face framing highlights; which can be a lot lighter than the highlights you get on the rest of your head.

This one, it looks like she has peek-a-boo highlights which is where the highlights are under the top layer of your hair and you see them peeking out. These can be very funky and chunky, thicker more drastic highlights or they can be very subtle and natural looking like they are in this pic.

If you are going to do them yourself I would suggest using Herbal Essence Highlights and you can just get the golden blonde one. You can use the hair painting technique and I would just suggest picking sections of your hair and using an old toothbrush or your gloved fingers to apply the color to your hair rather than the comb that comes with the color. I would suggest doing the peek-a-boo highlights that look like the pic in the last link I pasted. To do that, just part your hair how you normally would and then take about a 1/2 inch thick setion from the top of each side and pin them back. Then start picking little pieces (about the width of a pencil?) and put the color on those. If you do the peek-a-boo technique it doesn't have to be perfectly symmetrical on either side because you won't be able to notice. Very easy, almost fool-proof method. I would suggest getting the blonde highlights and then not leaving it on for the full time suggested. These you can also kind of watch and see how light they are getting and gauge when you want to rinse them. I would suggest leaving them on for atleast 15-20 minutes.
