I naturally have brown hair but i want to dye my hair blonde. what should i do about my roots?

When i was younger i naturally had blonde hair but it grew to be darker %26amp; darker. %26amp; i've always dyed it blonde.

Until a year or two ago i died back to my [now] natural hair color, which is a darkish brown.

I want to dye my hair blonde again, but i am worried about my roots. Will it look bad %26amp; would i have to go into the salon every month or so to get it touched up? I didn't have to do so before because my hair just recently turned it's dark brown.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

well get highlights then and then get them touched up every 6 to 8 weeks....the style right now is dark roots at least an inch of them

you could dye it and then try "color stay shampoo and conditioner" (i think its loreal) but maybe u might have to go to the salon and get it touched up. i dont know i have never dyed my hair before and dont plan on it. hope i helped and good luck!! :)

You will have to go every 4 to 6 weeks to get your roots touched up, yes. BUT, there is another option to extend your time a bit! lol

I have very light hair naturally (so light, it doesn't even look like a color - it's nearly transparent) and I like to dye my hair dark in the fall and winter...that means that when my roots grow out, it looks like I'm balding. I found at Belk salons (which now exclusively sell Bumble %26amp; Bumble and Aveda products) a spray color powder...it's to refresh oily hair if you don't have time to wash it, but I used it to keep my roots touched up when I didn't have the money to buy my color. It's called Bumble %26amp; Bumble Hair Powder. It comes in different colors...White, Blonde, Brown, Black, and Red. It always blends with your hair, just brush it til it's blended.

I'm gonna have to pick up a new bottle now that I'm blonde. :-)

Make a subtle switch to blonde...like a dark blonde...and you won't have such problems with roots.

Well first of all, if you have dark brown hair, you wouldnt DYE it blonde. You would have to bleach it to the color of blonde that you want.

When your hair grows out, the roots won't look so cute, so you'll probbaly have to go get it touched up every 3-5 months.

I have brown hair, and I bleached my hair by myself recently, and the roots look really bad when it grows out, so i just buy more and bleach my whole head over again. It makes all of my hair brighter, and dyes the roots. (I left the bleach on my roots a little longer) I prefer to dye my hair myself, because the hair people at the salons are afraid to damage your hair, so they don't give you what you want sometimes.

Also, going from dark brown hair to blonde makes your hair feel like plastic. I know from experience.

And if you are who I think you are, youre going to look awkward with blonde hair. (I'm not saying that in a mean way. It's just an honest opinion)

My advice.....don't ever try to color your hair yourself. Find yourself a really good colorist. A great one will be able to mix a formula that will be just what you want.

l'oreal have good colours. personally, i wouldnt colour my hair at home myself because the colours make you har dryer, the colours have more chemicals in them, they are harder to get out if you change your mind, people always miss spots, they don't come out like they look on the box, they ALWAYS have red in them and yeah.. thats it basically.

but if i WERE to do it. look for something on the box that says "natural" but it will still go a bit red because it reacts with the natural colour pigments in you hair and then when you get in the sun that will effect it too.

I am naturally blonde but have been dying my hair dark brown for about 8 years now. I am just much happier as a brunette. I have always found that a hair dye that has anti-colour fade in it, keeps my hair a nice, warm shade of brown. I also do a conditioning mask treatment on my hair about once a week, which I find helps to keep my hair rich and silky. You are right to stay away from the reds and coppers because they are so hard to get rid of if you get them and then decide you don't like them. The red pigmentation stays in your hair for ages. I will be a dark brunette for the rest of my life 'cause I just love the colour.

First, go to a salon to get it done professionally especially as you haven't been dark brown before because they will have samples of various browns that they can hold against your face to see which will complement it the most. Dark brown can be quite a dramatic change so bear in mind you will have to possibly change make up colours as well and invest in some bottled tan lotion !! Just don't do a Christina Aguilera when she went dark a couple of years back ! Best of luck x

Believe it or not Purple, you should put on a thin line on your eyelid. You should wear light brown pencil on the bottom rim. Don't over do it.

this is what i would do

black liner with light gray eyeshadow just above your top eyelash.

blue liner with a dark blue eyeshadow jsut above your top eyelash mized with a light blue.

or purple liner with a cream eyesahdow jsut above your toplash.

it sounds crazy, but try it.

I would say dark brown eyeliner for the rims, not black or blue or green.

Eyeshadows: Find a different type of bronze. You could also try different shades of brown or even pink, but dont go for blue or green coz i tried them and it looked weird.

Warm colours for warm skin in earthy tones is best.

PS: Nothing is going to lighten up your eyes but you can make them stand out. Dont use dark colours though.

I use a "Level 2" (non-amonia) hair colour. I chose one that is a light brown, to tone down the brassiness of the blonde chunks in my hair --- which is mixed with the grey I have, and to mix well with the brown hair chunks I have. I like it because there are hardly any roots to deal with.

The problem is it was too dark...even though it washes out in 24 shampoos. It's been 2 weeks now, and it's just getting where I like it now.

If I washed it out sooner in the application of it, it wouldn't last at all.

It's the lightest brown that brand makes---if I go lighter, it will lighten up the brown too much. Should I use the lighter anyway?....and just let it lighten up the brown, just so it will blend the roots, %26amp; the grey with the blonde?

i dont think the hairstylist knew what you meant by "level 2" -that is not a color(perhaps in another country it is?) it is the non-permanent type-washes out in 24 shampoos kinda thing It is less harsh on your hair and gives less grow out appearance You can either try a lighter color of the same-try a different brand perhaps- or go for a pro but then be prepaed to keep going back with lots of moolah. (money) There is also a product called "glazing" you put it on to refresh color as it fades and it is very temporary and easy to use-also gentle and wont fry your hair like permanent dye or bleaching(ahhh) You could use it in between

Or you can settle for dark-maybe add some red tones or go even darker. Its all a compromise til you can get your hair to grow out those chunks .Be patient and let it grow and keep using the brown you like best Next time dont color small portions so you wont have that chunky problem

a level 2 is one step up from black, so i dont' know why you thought you were using "light brown". anyway, if its too dark, try washing your hair w/ dish soap a few times...it helps strip color out. other than that, you have to just wait for it to fade, or get it fixed professionally. you can't redye it and expect it to get lighter...color doesn't work that way. you have to strip it out or bleach it, which should absolutely ONLY be done by professionals.

start with the dishsoap (palmolive works good). it'll "speed up" the fading process.

I'am a hairdresser and that is bleach 6% bleach i would guess i dont think it would look funny but it would stand out if you want to be noticed.

I would give you a I would give you a 8% bleach and copper or caramel tone through your hair so it would not look so choppy with colour.

But yes you could have that look.

It looks like a 2 - color highlight with a blonding agent (bleach) , alternated with a high lift blonde hair color with a richer, warmer tone. (One is brought up to a pale blonde, the other is a golden color).

If you do it as a highlight method, which it is, the eye brows should look fine.
