please go to a salon or a professional to do this u will end up either frying your hair or turning it green or some other weird colour. u may not get it back to the origional blond but they can get as close as possible. tell them what u want to have done and if they can't help keep trying until u find one that will.

This happened to me and I was not happy with my hair at all. My friend suggested I go see her hairdresser and it was the best thing I could have done. She put highlights in it that took away the "darkness" of the overall look. I would have never thought it would look as good as it did, but she definitely knew what she was doing. Skip the washing your hair 100 times--go get some highlights and the contrast will look great!

Lots of shampooing will help, especially with dish detergent or Prell shampoo. I wouldn't try the lemon, I think that only lightens your natural color. Also, you might want to try a product like Colorfix if it really bothers you. It comes from beauty supplies stores and removes the dye (not back to natural though), then you can put a lighter color over it.

I am a hairstylist, the best home remedy to remove haircolor is HOT water and dish washing liquid. Hot water opens the cuticle and the dish washing liquid has a really strong detergent that it will strip artificial color. You can also mix up lemon juice and baking soda and leave it on your hair for a bit to remove some color. The bad thing is, that lifting color will leave your underlying pigment which for most dark colors is red or orange which will have to be corrected with a toner. Good Luck

If the hair color was permanent, and your hair is dry and porus, you may have a problem, before you call the salon try shampooing your hair with baking soda several times and wait a day or 2 sometimes the color will lighten on its own, dont try any over the counter so called color strippers, they will leave your hair dried out and may not strip the color out evenly, if your hair hasnt lightened any in a week or so you may want to call a salon that specializes in corrective color, it may be costly, but sometimes mistakes come at a very high price!!!! By the way, lemon juice will only dry your hair out.I also agree with N2Blondes go ahead and use dishwashing liquid with your baking soda, dont freak out and think that your are going to turn your hair red or orange, all that will do is remove some of the artificial haircolor that has been deposited, the dishliquid and baking soda will not lighten your natural hair color. DO NOT put anything else over the counter on top of what you have done if this does not start to lighten , get to your stylist have them correct the problem,the more you put on your hair the more damaging it is and the less they can do (depending on the extent of the damage) or the more they have to do, which in turn is going to cost your more.

We tried this at home a couple of times - it barley works. It does although make you hair sticky, stings your head and insects will be running at you.

So in short I would not recomend it.

Try using a product like sun-in. You simply spay it on (the more you spray the lighter it becomes) and sit in the sun for 10 - 20 minutes. Now this one works.

I'm mostly Greek. My natural hair color is very, very dark brown, almost indistinguishable from black.

I've dyed my hair many times before, but just once recently, a few months ago. I used Revlon dye, one of the lightest blonde dyes because anything darker won't have an impact on my dark hair. My hair turned a nice medium brown color I was happy with.

Now I have a couple inches of new dark growth. Last night I bought a Revlon 'Dark Ash Blonde' color, but I am unsure how to use it.

Do I? :

a) apply the dye to just the new growth/roots

b) apply to just the roots for most of the time, and then add the dye to the med. brown hair at the last few minutes.

or

c) apply the dye to the whole head evenly?

or

d) your advice?

I just don't want it to make my dark black roots turn brown and make my brown dyed hair turn light brown. I want one color on my whole head, obviously.

I rather not go to a salon, if that's your opinion.

When you lighten your hair you make it drier, just as when you darken your hair you moisturize it - so know that when you add this new color (lightener) your going to make the new growth lighter but also the old hair more brittle. You can rub it into all your hair and it will come out fine-looking - but the hair that's already been dyed with break off easier. I would suggest you do the whole head ( if you just rub it into the roots you risk that your old coloring has faded and your crown will be lighter than your ends).

I have seen a lot of people do this before and i think it looks really cool, Lacey from So You Think You Can Dance had red streaks in here hair and it looked really cool. I would have a professional do it for you so they put it in places that accentuate your features. I hope this helps and if you could post a pic of you after you get it done I would love to see. Aww Same with me i have dark brown hair so i wanted it dyed light brown but my crazy hairdresser turned it into a reddy/orange and its horrible now its started to grow out and its worse cos half of my head is dark and the rest is orange, i tried to dye it again but the colour keeps washing out and the orange is back again, I was thinking of getting it stripped but that damages your hair so badly, anyway go to a hairdresser and ask to get it permenantly dyed to your same hair colour as before, thats the only solution. good luck, i know how you feel:)

Go to the salon and have a profession who specializes in color correction do it for you.

If you want to try something at home go to the beauty supply store and find a brown color with a green base and buy 10 volume peroxide and dye your hair yourself. These are usually the ash colors however, you have to know the base because some ash color are violet base and this will do nothing for you.

The 10 volume peroxide makes the color semi-permanent so it will gradually fade away in 8-12 weeks.

If you don't want to dye your hair you'll have to wait for the color to grow out.

To cancel out the red in your hair you will need haircolor with a green base to it. Go to beauty supply store and get help from worker to help determine natural level of hair color(1-10) probably 5-7 if your a med brown. Get the same level number color with a green base to it apply only to red areas and watch carefully to see when red is cancelled out and wash immediately....if your ends are really dry and damaged color can grab so be ready to wash right away.You can also add 1oz of hair conditioner to the color to help condition the ends and keep color from grabbing too dark.

A caramel or honeyed blonde would look really good. But whichever shade that you choose, have the highlights "weaved" into your hair. Don't just take chunks of hair and put color on...that looks fake. Weaving highlights into the hair looks much more natural.

At least 2 tones lighter than your base tone (like the small splash of caramel color at chin level in your pic). With a third shade that is at least 3 tones lighter around your face - to frame and give the appearance of a nice glow to your face.

Pictures in one of the other answers had highlights and low-lights in several tones, you will not get that effect with only 10 foils. In the second picture, I do not think the extreme difference in tones would look good, or be as "natural" as you are looking for.

Finally, have fun! If you don't like it, the highlights can be immediately covered with a demi-permanent color that matches your hair before you even leave the shop, so just think of it as an adventure... after all, nothing is permanent.

I dress like a punk, but my hair is brown and fluffy like some innocent dope. So, in order to match my appearance with my attitude, I was thinking of putting red highlights in my hair and either spiking it or doing the whole fauxhawk thing. OK my advice is to go to and expert, salon or hairstylist.

To go from brown to red highlits you need to bleach your hair to a certain "perfect point" and then dye it red.

If you do it yourself even if you think you won't you might over bleach your hair and the follicles of your hair and the pigmentation of you hair might be so damaged by the bleach that you won't be able to dye it red after.

And no brown does not look stupid with the red...besides why would you damage your whole entire hair by dyeing it black instead of bleaching some hair starnds and dying them red afterwards?

Besides after you dye your hair black it's harder to come out from this color.

My best advice to go from a drastic brown to a red is to get it bleached and highlighted red by a professional.

Buy Feria 205 (extra bleach blonde) and lighten the sections you want red for an hour (it should be BLONDE!!! at this point). The next night, dye the blonde sections the red that you want (go to a Sally's and ask for a fire engine red hair permanent color). But you can test the color with a temporary spray on first before you invest in the bleach and the haircolor.

You should have waited to bleach your streaks after a week or two. And if you used a box color for the streaks, they do not use very strong bleach. I have fair skin and green/gold eyes and I like my hair dark. Try using black/brown if you want to go ebony instead of straight up black (which can look goth unless you like that look).

Go to Sally Beauty supply and get kalidacolor [not sure of the spelling] that way you won't have to bleach your streaks. There is no bleach in the product, you will have to get a powder to develop this, and it takes only 10 minutes! the sales persons there are usually very knowledgeable, and can assist you.

Don't go permanant though. I would suggest doing a demi-permanant color, and not really dark. There are color levels 1-10.

1 is very black (nobody has this color naturally) and 10 is very, very blonde.

I am naturally about a 7, but I darkened my hair to a 4. To acheive this, I put a level 5 dye on my hair, and it darkened it that much. Just be careful, because you can't go back easily, unless you go demi-permanant. Also with your skin, going too dark can wash you out. Be careful what you select, the swatches are done on WHITE HAIR...it will turn out darker on you.

My favorite demi-permanants are the paul mitchell pm shines. Check out those colors, and see if your nearby salon uses paul mitchell.
